We are facing unusually difficult times in the Pacific Northwest right now. We cope with fires here annually, and some are bad. Now, unfortunately, we are facing the worst of them and possibly in recorded history for the State of Oregon. People with respiratory conditions are especially at risk, notwithstanding the ongoing threat of COVID-19. Our current state of emergency has left 1/2 million people displaced with many who have lost their homes, businesses, jobs, and property. Sadly, some have even lost their lives.
An unusual layer of concurrent of events is bewildering: political attacks from DC in response to Black Lives Matter. Loud calls for police reform has kept Portland in the national news for over 3 months.
We meet to preserve our connectedness, to remind ourselves that we aren’t isolated in an uncertain world. We meet to gain another opportunity to smile and be smiled upon. We meet to review our long-term goals and to regain focus if we’ve lost it.
Our newly formed chapter already has a strong voice, so let’s gather to discuss how we plan to make a positive impact as Episcoplians in the Cascade Region.
